The method, plainly stated

The principles
behind your plan.

See how ACSM and NSCA guidance, training research and nutrition science shape Clearset’s cycle structure, exercise selection and daily targets.

Training, built on principles

Four phases, with a purpose for each.

ACSM and NSCA guidance and research on periodization and exercise variation inform Clearset’s training structure. The cycle gives you a consistent point to review progress and shape the next plan.

Evidence into practice

How Clearset applies the research.

Each section pairs research or professional guidance with the decisions it informs in Clearset.

Training structure

Periodization and strength

Evidence: A 2022 meta-analysis of volume-matched programs found a small one-rep-max strength advantage for periodized versus non-periodized training, with similar hypertrophy outcomes. Moesgaard et al. (2022).

In Clearset: periodization becomes an editable four-week sequence—Foundation, Progression, Intensification and Deload. Each phase has a clear purpose, and progression settings adapt to the training goal.

Exercise selection

Planned rotation, not random change

Evidence: An eight-study review in young men found systematic exercise variation can support regional muscle growth and dynamic strength, while excessive or random changes may hinder gains. Kassiano et al. (2022).

In Clearset: primary compound lifts can carry forward for useful strength comparisons. Supporting exercises rotate when suitable alternatives exist; goal, experience and recent use shape selections.

Deload design

A deload shaped by coaching practice

Evidence: A 2023 international Delphi study documented strength and physique coaches’ approaches to deloading.

In Clearset: the fourth week lowers training demand, with goal-specific adjustments to sets and effort.

Nutrition targets

How nutrition targets are calculated

Evidence: Mifflin–St Jeor estimates resting energy expenditure. Protein guidance for exercising people draws on the ISSN position stand.

In Clearset: lifestyle, planned strength and cardio minutes, goal and cycle phase shape calorie targets. Protein targets use profile and goal inputs within 1.4–2.2 g/kg/day; daily targets are expressed as meal-level ranges.
